Tax Identification Number

What is it?

The tax identification number identifies the citizen in all of his or her dealings with institutions and public administration services. To obtain one it is necessary to apply to the local Inland Revenue office with proof of identity. Foreign nationals must bring either a passport or a current permit to stay.

For newborn infants, the tax identification number will be issued by the Municipal authorities on first registration at the Anagrafe (Population Registry Office)

In case of loss

If the tax identification card is lost or stolen, a duplicate may be requested at any local Inland Revenue office.

In case of change of address it is necessary to go to the local Inland Revenue office to provide the new information, and present an identity document bearing the updated details or submit a self-declaration form.
